It’s time. Truly. As the playoffs loom in the very near future, it’s time we (I) check my reservations at the door. The Nuggets are real. They’ve proven themselves throughout the entire season and no longer can we act surprised at their continued success. I predict they will handedly deal a loss to the Clippers tomorrow night, sending Los Angeles’s second team home for the summer. They will then move on to the playoffs as the coveted 8th seed.
The hand of fate has touched the New Orleans Pelicans, for they play the unfortunate Phoenix Suns tonight, and will surely hold onto their current 7th seeding — although that could ver well change.
Should the Thunder maintain their 6th seed, it would set the table for the most electric first round contest we’ve seen in years: Blazers vs. Thunder. The dynamic guard play, combined with the never-ending soap opera starring Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, will make for wonderful sporting television. I would not be surprised if, in the game 7 season finale, we discover that it has been Carmelo Anthony’s evil twin playing this entire season. Dun Dun Dun!
Albeit, there are plenty of things that can happen before then, but we should celebrate the fact that the race for the 8th spot in a conference has become so captivating. Rejoice, for it could very well end in a tie, something that’s never before happened in the history of the League. What happens then? A one-game playoff NCAA style? God, please.
And the Masters are on? And baseball’s back? And there’s a Japanese kid going Babe Ruth on everyone? What a time to be alive!
